Gas Tanker Truck Explosion. President Claudia Sheinbaum stated that the Mexico City Attorney General's Office must investigate the cause of the explosion of a liquified petroleum (LP) gas tanker truck in Iztapalapa, Mexico City. She noted the company involved, Transportadora Silza, has issued a statement confirming its insurance is in order and committing to support the victims. President Sheinbaum emphasized the need to understand why the tragic event occurred to prevent it from happening again and called for the implementation of traceability measures for fuel transport.
President Sheinbaum noted that a coordinated, multi-agency medical response is underway to care for the injured, with services provided free of charge regardless of social security affiliation. IMSS is treating 19 hospitalized patients, with 10 of the most severe cases at the Magdalena de las Salinas hospital. ISSSTE is caring for 16 hospitalized individuals who were not affiliated with the institution, including five severe cases with burns covering 50% to 90% of their bodies. IMSS-Bienestar is treating 27 patients, with 10 at the specialized Rubén Leñero burn center and two minors at pediatric hospitals.
President Sheinbaum stated that the company is responsible for actions related to victim compensation and damages. She also stressed the need to review and strictly enforce safety norms for the transport of highly flammable LP gas, a practice common in other countries. She added that the Agency for Safety, Energy, and Environment (ASEA) must clarify all matters related to the company's insurance.
Tariffs on Non-FTA Countries. Regarding the implementation of tariffs on countries with which Mexico does not have trade agreements, President Sheinbaum explained that the government is in discussions with the ambassadors of those nations, such as China and South Korea, to avoid generating conflict. She indicated that a detailed analysis of the potential inflationary impact of these measures was conducted beforehand.
Sheinbaum to Meet Leaders of Guatemala and Belize. President Sheinbaum announced that her Sept. 12, 2025, morning press conference will be held in Chetumal, Quintana Roo. She detailed that on the same day, she will travel to Guatemala to meet with President Bernardo Arévalo, and will later hold a meeting in Calakmul, Campeche, with the Prime Minister of Belize, John Briceño.
