Grupo Modelo Announces Investment. Raúl Escalante, Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Grupo Modelo, announced an investment exceeding MX$3.6 billion (US$183.6 million) between 2025 and 2027. This investment will be used for modernizing breweries and factories, promoting circular economy initiatives, modernizing customer points of sale, strengthening local supply chains, and supporting community initiatives like festivals, concerts, and the FIFA World Cup 2026.
President Claudia Sheinbaum acknowledged and thanked Grupo Modelo for this investment. She also referenced the company's past support during the pandemic, including hospital remodeling and resource donation, and mentioned that La Pastora Hospital will become a breast cancer care center.
Shared Prosperity Portfolio. Minister of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, presented the initiative Portafolio para la Prosperidad Compartida (Shared Prosperity Portfolio), aiming to foster collaboration between the public and private sectors, identify projects with challenges to provide support from planning to completion, and serve as a tool for cross-governmental coordination.
Plan México’s Progress. Ebrard stated that Mexico was the first country to present a plan, referring to Plan México, which has seen substantial progress in its regulatory, operational, and investment aspects. He expressed optimism that the plan's preparation will lead to increased investment attraction.
A key objective derived from Plan Mexico is to boost national production and minimize imports. In the textile sector, a general 35% tariff was implemented on imports priced below Mexican-made goods. Ebrard clarified that this tariff applies generally and is not directed at a single country. Mexico is also reviewing temporary imports of intermediate goods, primarily within the textile industry, which has led to the closure of companies found to have irregularities in these imports.
Minimum Wage Increases. President Sheinbaum presented data indicating that Mexico's daily minimum wage increased from MX$136.84 in 2018 to MX$415.53 in 2025. She noted that this places Mexico as the sixth country with the highest minimum wage in Latin America. President Sheinbaum stated that the minimum wage is projected to continue increasing as part of Plan México, to reach a level sufficient to purchase two and a half basic baskets by 2030.
