ISSSTE Reform. President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the demands of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), who are calling for the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE reform. She emphasized that the reform did not contain measures against teachers and confirmed that the initiative had been withdrawn from Congress.
Sheinbaum proposed organizing school-level forums and committees to develop an alternative proposal, ensuring transparency, labor rights protection, and the absence of corruption. She also urged teachers to help disseminate the agreements reached with CNTE. She added the legal aspects of the proposal are under review by the Legal Counsel's Office.
Sheinbaum Responds to Bukele's Comments. President Sheinbaum responded to comments made by El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele regarding Mexico's security situation. While Bukele suggested that Mexico could consider adopting El Salvador's security model, Sheinbaum refrained from engaging in a debate with him. She emphasized the importance of mutual respect between countries and underscored the need to respect Mexico's approach to security.
Meeting With Steel Business Leaders. President Sheinbaum met with steel and aluminum industry leaders in Nuevo Leon to discuss potential measures if the United States imposes tariffs on April 2, 2025, which will now include steel derivative products. She emphasized the importance of minimizing the impact on the public and the sector. Sheinbaum noted that the government would evaluate appropriate actions considering the entire steel supply chain.
