Medicine Purchases. Deputy Minister of Health Eduardo Clark reported that 96% of the supplies required by the public health system have now been acquired. The estimated investment for these supplies for 2025 and 2026 is MX$284 billion (US$15 billion). He stated that 60% of the total medicines, equating to 416 million pieces from over 207 different types acquired, will be received by July 2025. This includes 331,316 oncology drugs for IMSS-Bienestar scheduled for delivery in July 2025.
Regarding distribution, Clark explained that BIRMEX has strengthened its national capacity and is responsible for sending the supplies to each state, with deliveries reaching 23 states. Starting in August 2025, the Rutas de la Salud (Health Routes) program will be implemented to ensure nationwide coverage. This program, representing an investment of over MX$120 million, is supported by a fleet that includes 96 3.5t trucks, 38 1.5t trucks, 35 sanitary containers, and 27 refrigerated containers.
Mexican Banks Money Laundering Case. President Claudia Sheinbaum stated there are no criminal investigation files open in Mexico regarding the case of Vector Casa de Bolsa, CIBanco, and Intercam Banco. She informed that the Ministry of Finance (SHCP) is closely monitoring the situation to guarantee the protection of savers and trusts.
Sheinbaum added that the SHCP is in constant communication with the appointed interventors and is collaborating with Banxico, the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV), and the Association of Mexican Banks (ABM) throughout the process.
17.09% Duty on Mexican Tomatoes. President Sheinbaum expressed her disagreement with the 17.09% tariff imposed by the United States on Mexican tomatoes. She recalled that a previous agreement was once withdrawn but had to be reinstated due to its negative impact on the US economy and consumers. Sheinbaum asserted that exports of Mexican tomatoes will continue despite the tariff because the US has no substitute, but predicted that US consumers will feel its main impacts. She noted that Mexico has a negotiation window with the United States until Aug. 1, 2025, and warned that if an agreement is not reached by that date, her government will announce its responsive actions.
