US Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Donald Trump has great respect for Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum, emphasizing that US policy remains focused on maintaining pressure on Mexico to combat drug trafficking. “I believe he has a lot of respect for her as the President of Mexico and truly values the coordination with the Trump administration,” Leavitt said.

Sheinbaum ruled out the possibility of a US military intervention in Mexico following media reports that Trump was considering sending troops to fight drug cartels on Mexican soil. “That will not happen,” she stated.

Leavitt declined to comment directly on Sheinbaum’s remarks but reiterated that Washington continues to press Mexico to strengthen its anti-narcotics efforts. “We are continuously urging Mexico to do more to combat drug trafficking and are cooperating in every possible way,” she said.

Several US media outlets have suggested that Washington might expand its offensive against organized crime in Latin America, potentially including strikes within Mexican territory. Leavitt noted that Trump has used “the full range of presidential authority” to confront drug trafficking, including labeling cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

When asked whether military actions south of the border were under consideration, Leavitt refused to confirm, though she acknowledged that the administration has framed the United States as being in “armed conflict” with drug traffickers.
