At ProChile, we have closely witnessed the remarkable evolution of Chilean exports to Mexico. What began as a trade relationship dominated by traditional sectors has transformed into a dynamic and diverse exchange, reflecting the adaptability and innovation of Chilean businesses. Today, Chile is a key partner for Mexico, with bilateral trade reaching an impressive US$3.847 million in 2024. This growth is no coincidence, it is the result of strategic efforts, solid trade agreements, and a commitment to delivering high-quality and sustainable products.

Mexico stands as Chile’s second largest trading partner in Latin America and has now become Chile’s fifth most important market globally. The Chile-Mexico Free Trade Agreement has played a crucial role in facilitating this expansion, eliminating tariffs and fostering a favorable business climate. However, the true driving force behind this success is the ability of Chilean companies to understand and respond to the demands of the Mexican market.

In the food and beverage sector alone, Chile exported more than US$780 million to Mexico in 2024. One of the most emblematic sectors in this evolution has been the agrifood industry. Chilean fruits, particularly grapes, apples, and cherries, have gained a strong foothold among Mexican consumers, who increasingly seek fresh, healthy, and sustainably sourced products. In 2024, Chilean fruit exports to Mexico amounted to US$83 million, demonstrating the sector’s robust growth. Likewise, Chilean wines have carved out a special place, recognized for their excellent quality at competitive prices, with exports reaching US$75 million. Another sector that continues to grow is seafood, with salmon and mussels becoming staples in both the hospitality and retail industries, driven by the rise in demand for high-protein diets. In 2024, seafood exports totaled US$216 million.

Chile's exports of manufactured forest products to Mexico reached approximately US$370 million in 2024, further diversifying our trade relationship. We also see a promising future for Chilean innovation and technology in Mexico. The expansion of digital solutions, fintech services, and clean energy technologies demonstrates that our country is not only a provider of raw materials but also a key contributor to the knowledge economy. Chilean companies specializing in these areas are finding increasing opportunities, driven by Mexico’s ongoing digital transformation and sustainability initiatives. In 2024, exports of services, that include technology-based solutions, from Chile to Mexico accounted for US$92 million.

Looking ahead, several factors will shape the future of our exports. Sustainability and ESG practices are no longer just competitive advantages, they are prerequisites for success in the market. Chile has positioned itself as a leader in responsible and environmentally friendly production, which aligns perfectly with the expectations of Mexican consumers and businesses. Additionally, e-commerce and digital trade are opening new avenues, making it easier for Chilean companies to reach customers across Mexico.

Another key opportunity lies in integration into Mexico’s supply chains. As nearshoring becomes a defining trend in North America, Chilean exporters can position themselves as strategic partners, offering high-quality inputs and solutions for various industries. Strengthening our commercial ties through innovation, market intelligence, and strategic alliances will be essential in this process.

At ProChile, we remain committed to supporting Chilean companies in navigating and capitalizing on these opportunities. Our mission is to ensure that Chile continues to be a reliable and competitive trade partner for Mexico, fostering sustainable growth for both nations. The Chile-Mexico trade relationship is stronger than ever, and as we move forward, we are confident that it will continue to flourish, bringing new possibilities and shared prosperity.
