TC Energía, in collaboration with CFE, has intensified its efforts to complete the Puerta al Sureste pipeline, a key project for the transportation of natural gas in Mexico. The Canadian company recently announced plans to have this 715km underwater pipeline operational by mid-2025.

This pipeline will enable the safe delivery of 1.3Bcf/d of natural gas from Tuxpan to Coatzacoalcos and Paraiso, Tabasco, supporting projects like the Tren Maya and the Interoceanic Corridor. Additionally, the pipeline will connect with an existing underwater pipeline, Sur de Texas-Tuxpan, further strengthening energy infrastructure between Mexico and the United States.

To date, over 98% of the land-based portion of the pipeline has been completed, with the final 3km in shallow waters expected to be finished this quarter. François Poirier, CEO, TC Energía, also highlighted the increase in gas imports to Mexico, which has prompted TC Energía to consider accelerating the pipeline's start of operations to meet the growing domestic demand while maintaining exports to Europe and Asia.
