Q: What role does Mexico play within Hellmann Worldwide Logistics’ operations?

AG: Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has been present in Mexico for 23 years, operating through two main divisions: Freight Forwarder and Contract Logistics. We are a major competitor in the Mexican market, particularly in industries such as fashion. We recently celebrated the launch of a significant project in the fashion sector, underscoring our commitment to and strategic focus on this area.

Q: What strategies is Hellmann Worldwide Logistics developing to create customized logistics solutions tailored to the unique requirements of different industries?

JW: Hellmann Worldwide Logistics understands that each customer has unique requirements, which allows us to adopt a personalized approach to developing logistics solutions. We prioritize understanding the specific needs of each client rather than using a one-size-fits-all solution. During the initial phase of a collaboration, we engage in detailed discussions with our clients to understand the nuances of their business operations and the expectations of their end customers. This understanding is crucial in guiding us during the solution design phase.

In the United States, we proudly collaborate with two of the largest companies in the renewable energy sector, including a notable wind turbine manufacturer. This showcases our ability to create highly specialized solutions. Our commitment to providing tailored services extends across various industries, including healthcare, automotive, perishables, and fashion.

Our strategy emphasizes long-term partnerships. We believe that successful logistics solutions require a collaborative approach, and we strive to build strong, fulfilling relationships with our clients. We are not focusing on immediate gains; instead, we aim to foster enduring collaborations that can evolve over time. This long-term perspective allows us to adapt our solutions as our clients’ needs change, ensuring alignment with their strategic goals.

Q: What advanced technological tools and systems are being implemented in your new warehouse in Mexico to streamline operations and enhance client satisfaction?

JW: Our new warehouse, which will handle Lacoste’s products, prioritizes innovation and uses a state-of-the-art Warehouse Management System (WMS) to streamline operations. This system is crucial to seamlessly interact with our customer’s systems, enhancing operational efficiency. We also employ radio frequency scanners and handheld devices to maintain full process control.

This technology allows us to scan inventory at each stage — from inbound to inventory control, outbound picking, and shipping — providing our customers with complete visibility of their product’s supply chain. This comprehensive approach enhances both operational efficiency and client satisfaction.

Q: What sustainability initiatives is the company launching, and how do they align with global environmental goals?

AG: Sustainability is a top priority for Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, driven by market demand. We have implemented several key initiatives to enhance our operations and align with global environmental goals. These include increasing automation to reduce manual processes and improve efficiency, as well as providing higher-quality tools that better integrate our solutions for customers. We focus on delivering innovative, sustainable solutions that benefit both our employees and the environment.

JW: Hellmann Worldwide Logistics is actively pursuing a range of sustainability initiatives across all regions. For example, we have eliminated printed business cards in favor of digital alternatives and are committed to reducing our CO2 footprint in warehouses by recycling cardboard and plastic waste. We also introduced eco-friendly trucks in Germany, and have plans for further rollout. Our commitment to sustainability includes regular CO2 reporting. As customer expectations evolve, we recognize that these initiatives are becoming the new normal, and we are dedicated to prioritizing sustainability in all aspects of our operations.

Q: With the rise of nearshoring, how is Hellmann Worldwide Logistics positioning itself to be a leading logistics provider for companies relocating or expanding in Mexico?

AG: Nearshoring has been taking place for some time. Many companies are relocating to Mexico, particularly to manufacture and export to the United States. This includes a notable influx of Asian and Chinese firms. We are actively identifying key operational points to ensure we provide high-quality service.

The trend of opening new facilities near the border may eventually present challenges. To address this, we are evaluating every opportunity to offer unique and tailored logistics solutions that meet the specific needs of these relocating companies.

Q: What specific needs must be addressed to unlock Mexico’s logistics potential?

AG: While Mexico has the potential to become a major player in the global market, investment in infrastructure, including facilities and transportation routes, is essential. We are also enhancing customs processes and ensuring security to capitalize on the opportunities that arise from our presence in the country.

Q: What are Hellmann Worldwide Logistics’s expectations for the future of the logistics industry, and how will the company’s role evolve within it?

JW: Innovation will be the key differentiator in the warehouse segment. While warehouse operations may appear straightforward, implementing small innovative processes and digitalization can significantly enhance value for our customers. We will continue to focus on this aspect, adapting to the unique requirements of various industries. Our team is dedicated to driving innovation and staying updated on emerging trends, ensuring we find effective solutions that align with our operational goals.

AG: As freight forwarders, Hellmann Worldwide Logistics is concentrating on specific verticals in Mexico, such as automotive, fashion, high-tech, and perishables. Our goal is to deliver unique value in these areas rather than competing solely on rates. We focus on offering comprehensive solutions and a complete portfolio of alternatives to our customers. By creating distinct services, we aim to provide more than just transportation; we strive to deliver a holistic logistics experience that enhances our clients’ operations.

Q: What are your main objectives for the remainder of this year?

JW: We are concluding this year on a positive note, having successfully developed strong relationships with our customers and opened a new warehouse for one of them. Looking ahead, we are prepared for growth and will continue to build on the solid foundation we have established in Mexico. Our objective is to expand our operations further, both within Mexico and to new customers beyond our borders.

AG: We expect 2024 to be a strong year for us. We are challenging our team and the market to explore new alternatives and develop innovative business practices, ensuring we stay ahead and continuously improve our offerings.
