Diplomatic Relations With Peru. President López Obrador announced that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs decided to maintain diplomatic relations with the government of Peru, currently headed by Dina Boluarte. This happened after Pablo Monroy, Ambassador in Lima, was declared persona non grata.

López Obrador lamented the decision taken by the Peruvian government. Nonetheless, he assured that the Mexican Embassy in Lima will continue with its duties. The president reiterated that the political crisis in Peru, which started with the destitution of Pedro Castillo, was provoked by groups of economic and political power in the country.

In response to what the Peruvian government considers as political interference from Mexican authorities, this Tuesday the Peruvian government declared Pablo Monroy as persona non grata and gave him 72 hours to leave the country. Moreover, they granted a permit to Pedro Castillo’s family to seek asylum in Mexico. The family arrived today in Mexico City.

Cruz Roja Fundraiser. President López Obrador asked the Mexican population to participate in the National Fundraiser of the Cruz Roja organization.

During his morning conference, López Obrador highlighted  Cruz Roja’s noble labor of helping all Mexicans. The National President of Cruz Roja, Fernando Suinaga, thanked the president for his decision to participate in the annual fundraiser. “This is the most important fundraiser event for our institution. Thanks to these resources, we can focus our humanitarian activities on the most vulnerable. It (Cruz Roja) is a humanitarian organization that has looked after the health of Mexicans for more than 112 years,” added Suinaga.
