López-Gatell to Compete for Mayor's Office of Mexico City. Hugo López-Gatell, Deputy Minister of Health Prevention and Promotion, officially announced his plans to compete for the candidacy for MORENA for the Mayor's Office of Mexico City. He detailed that he seeks to continue the "transformation" advanced by outgoing Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum.

López-Gatell explained that, together with "fellow members of the Fourth Transformation Movement," he has analyzed and identified the direction to follow to build the "second phase of the transformation." 

Sheinbaum has become MORENA's presidential candidate. In addition to López-Gatell, the candidacy for MORENA for the Mayor's Office of Mexico City will also be contested by Omar García Harfuch, former Minister of Public Security, and Clara Brugada, the former Mayor of Iztapalapa.

Elections 2024. Between eight and 10 officials from the Federal Government have already notified President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of their intention to seek an elected position in the upcoming June 2024 elections.

Officials aspiring to an elected position cannot hold a federal government post and must resign within the appropriate timeframes, said López Obrador. 

The Mexican president expressed his gratitude to these public servants who have greatly assisted him, wishing them success in their endeavors.

Among those who have detailed their aspirations are Rocío Nahle, Minister of Energy, and López-Gatell. They aspire to the candidacy for the government of Veracruz and the Mayor's Office of Mexico City, respectively.
