Security Assessment. Marcela Figueroa, Head, Executive Ministry of National Public Security (SESNSP), presented the crime incidence report for June 2025, indicating that intentional homicides decreased 24.5% compared to September 2024. This represents 21 fewer homicides per day. She highlighted that June 2025 reported the fewest daily homicides for that month since 2017. Furthermore, 1H25 had the lowest daily average of intentional homicides for a similar period since 2016.

Figueroa informed that in June 2025, seven states accounted for 54% of the intentional homicides recorded in Mexico. The reported states are Sinaloa with 10.5%, Guanajuato with 8.7%, Baja California with 8.2%, Chihuahua with 8.1%, the State of Mexico with 6.8%, Michoacan with 6%, and Guerrero with 5.6%.

Minister of Security Omar García Harfuch presented a security report detailing actions taken between June 19 and July 3, 2025. During this period, federal forces seized 865 firearms, dismantled 20 clandestine laboratories, and confiscated 17t of drugs, which included 2kg of fentanyl powder and 2,251 fentanyl pills. A total of 1,137 people were detained.

National Strategy Against Extortion. Ernestina Godoy, Legal Counsel to the Presidency, announced that President Claudia Sheinbaum will sign a legislative initiative as part of the National Strategy Against Extortion. The initiative aims to grant the federal Congress the power to issue a general law that standardizes the definition of the crime of extortion and its penalties nationwide, in order to better prevent, investigate, and punish it.

President Sheinbaum highlighted three main aspects of the strategy. First, anyone can anonymously report extortion by calling the 089 number. Second, after a report is made, an investigation will be launched by the same specialized units that handle kidnapping cases. Third, the new general law will ensure that extortion is investigated automatically by authorities, so the burden of filing a formal complaint no longer rests on the victim.

Case Against Peña Nieto. Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero announced that the Attorney General's Office (FGR) opened an investigation against former President Enrique Peña Nieto. The investigation follows new accusations against him concerning the Pegasus software. Gertz stated that this new case contains specific and precise information involving the companies that sold Pegasus. He confirmed that an investigation file has been opened and that his office has formally requested information from the Israeli government to incorporate into the case.

In relation to this, President Claudia Sheinbaum acknowledged that the collaborative relationship with Israeli authorities has not been easy, referencing past difficulties encountered during the Ayotzinapa case investigation.
