Mexico’s Ministry of Labor Launches Free AI Training Program
Mexico’s Ministry of Labor (STPS) has introduced a free online course on AI aimed at workers and employers across the country. The program seeks to strengthen workforce skills while supporting companies in meeting training requirements.
The course, titled AI for Life and Work, was developed through the Ministry’s Unit for Decent Work and the General Directorate of Labor Training (DGCL), with collaboration from Microsoft and the Cybersecurity Network. It forms part of the Ministry’s Distance Training Program for Workers (PROCADIST), a platform that offers 38 other online courses at no cost.
“The intention is to provide workers with technological tools that reinforce knowledge and prepare the labor force for future challenges,” writes SSA in its announcement.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts to expand access to training in emerging technologies. By focusing on AI, the Ministry positions the program as a resource for workers to adapt to changes in labor demand and for employers to integrate digital skills development into their workforce strategies.
Through PROCADIST, the Ministry has sought to provide continuous education and training options that comply with employers’ legal obligations in workforce development. The addition of the AI course expands the catalog of subjects available to employees in various sectors and regions, including those in SMEs that may lack resources for specialized training.
According to the Ministry, the course aims not only to improve individual skills but also to contribute to broader objectives such as productivity, competitiveness, and the promotion of “decent work.” The program aligns with the government’s commitment to foster a more skilled labor market capable of responding to technological transformations affecting industries worldwide.
The collaboration with Microsoft and the Cybersecurity Network signals an effort to draw on external expertise in the design of the program, ensuring content that addresses both opportunities and risks associated with AI. The Ministry expects the course to serve as a starting point for further adoption of digital tools across workplaces in Mexico.
By expanding training opportunities in AI and related fields, the government seeks to support both individual career development and organizational adaptation to a changing economy. The initiative underlines the role of workforce training policies in preparing employees for technological shifts, while offering employers practical tools to comply with training requirements and enhance productivity.
