Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic promise but a tangible reality in the Mexican business landscape. The positive impact it generates in organizations drives its adoption and the search for new ways to take advantage of its potential.

In this context, AI emerges as a tool that supports business transformation and simplifies processes while opening a new horizon of opportunities that technology and innovation leaders (CTIOs) in Mexico are eager to take advantage of. For this reason, they have found an important ally in their technology partners.

Right now, providing technological solutions is no longer enough. It requires close collaboration and accompaniment in designing and implementing new strategies that allow companies to take full advantage of the potential of AI and other emerging technologies.

The Effect of AI on Organizations

AI has become a growth engine for Mexican companies. According to a recent IDC study commissioned by Google Cloud: “Study with CTIOs in Mexico, 2024”. 9 out of 10 companies already use AI in at least one business process, and the vast majority perceive the added value that this technology brings to their business. Generative AI, in particular, offers new possibilities to optimize processes, improve productivity, generate new customer experiences and open up previously unknown business opportunities.

Cases in Mexico

The adoption of artificial intelligence is leaving a deep imprint on various Mexican industries, driving changes that go beyond simple technological improvements. One example of this is Grupo Coppel, one of Mexico's largest retail chains, which made the strategic decision to migrate most of its services and applications from traditional, locally hosted infrastructures to the cloud. This upgrade, beyond responding to changing market demands, allowed Coppel to scale its operations in an agile and efficient way, optimizing both costs and  the experience of its customers and employees. With AI as its next great ally, Coppel plans to continue this transformation in areas such as inventory management, portfolio management, and product distribution in its stores.

Another company that has harnessed the power of AI is financial institution CI Banco, which today has at least 50 projects powered by cloud technologies and solutions. One of them is the development of a document manager that is powered by a machine learning platform that allows training and, also, implementing AI models and applications. With this tool, the organization was able to optimize document review for its trust authorization processes. Previously, CI Banco teams were responsible for validating the information in all documents and completing the forms manually. With the integration of AI today, the team uploads the information, and the solution extracts the necessary data to add to the forms required for trust authorization. This project made it possible to streamline information review times: what used to take the team a week to complete is now done in no more than two hours.

In Zenpli's case, the implementation of artificial intelligence changed the activation of B2B contracts. What was once a tedious and time-consuming process has now been transformed into a 90% faster onboarding experience. AI-driven automation has not only reduced operating costs by 50%, but also raised data quality, ensuring regulatory compliance and strengthening customer confidence.

Finally, Mexican fintech Albo has gone a step further by developing a virtual financial assistant powered by Gemini’s artificial intelligence model. This assistant, known as albot, was created to help users through the application with doubts about albo, and also to provide advice to improve financial skills through best practices and advice regarding optimal money management.

These cases are not just isolated examples but clear indications of how AI is transforming the business landscape in Mexico, optimizing processes, reducing costs, and opening up new opportunities for growth and innovation in every sector.

Next Steps for Digital Transformation Leaders

As AI takes on significant value for the CTIO, they are also challenged to focus much more intently on leveraging this technology for value generation and productivity in their organizations. IDC's study reveals that their near-term focus is on:

  • Improving the use of AI in business processes to extract more value from data (47%).

  • Promoting the use of AI to improve employee productivity (42%).

  • Improving intelligent process automation capabilities (38%).

  • Leveraging business processes by applying generative AI (35%).

The examples of Coppel and CI Banco, as well as Albo and Zenpli, illustrate how AI is transforming industries and improving processes in Mexico. However, these are just the beginning. Generative AI, with its ability to create original content and perform complex tasks, has the potential to take organizations' innovation to the next level.

The future of AI in Mexico looks bright. The growing adoption of this technology, along with the joint work between companies and technology partners, will lay the groundwork for collaborative growth. Mexican CTIOs will play a crucial role in this process, leading the digital transformation of their organizations and taking full advantage of AI's potential. Collaboration will be the key.
