Viva Launches Seasonal Monterrey–NYC Route Ahead of World Cup
Viva announced the launch of a temporary route connecting Monterrey with New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, with operations scheduled from Dec. 12, 2025, to Jan. 11, 2026. The airline stated that the service responds to seasonal demand and will later return as a permanent route in June 2026, aligned with travel flows linked to the FIFA World Cup. The carrier added that the route will initially operate daily, following strong demand after its announcement.
In a statement, Viva said the route is primarily aimed at travelers from Monterrey, while also supporting inbound traffic to Mexico. “We are very excited to connect Monterrey with an international hub as important as New York, especially in 2026 when thousands of domestic and foreign tourists will be seeking convenient and affordable travel between Mexico and the United States,” said Viva Chief Executive Juan Carlos Zuazua. He added, “With this connection, we are giving the city where we were founded access to a new international destination for vacations, family visits, or business.”
The airline noted that the temporary operation during December and early January prompted an increase in frequencies to one flight per day. Viva confirmed that the route will resume permanently in June 2026, “just in time to receive thousands of tourists during the World Cup,” according to the company.
Nuevo León Tourism Secretary Maricarmen Martínez Villarreal said the route strengthens the state’s international presence. “This new route is a direct gateway to the international stage, placing Nuevo Leon before the eyes of the world,” she said. “In the context of one of the events that will bring the most visitors to our state, this connection represents more tourism, more business opportunities, and more options for residents.”
Ricardo Dueñas Espriu, CEO of airport operator OMA, added that the new service expands travel options and reinforces the airport’s role in northern Mexico. “Together with Viva, we continue to promote a connectivity model that consolidates Monterrey as the main hub in the north of the country,” he said.
