CFE Awards MX$12.2B Thermal Coal Tender
Mexico’s state utility, CFE, awarded MX$12.239 billion in a major thermal coal tender on Oct. 8, covering 7.99Mt across 27 lots. The procurement, managed by CFE’s Northern Production Coordination, included two contract numbers: 500659278 for MX$7.065 billion and 500659243 for MX$8.818 billion. Awards were determined by price using a Percentage Base Discount mechanism.
The coal supply will support thermoelectric plants in Nava and is expected to generate a notable economic impact in Coahuila’s coal-producing region. The tender evaluated 247 domestic and international producers, making it the most diversified in recent history.
CFE conducted the process through a public call with open participation and electronic evaluation, in line with current regulations and principles of transparency, legality, and fair competition. The utility or its designated representatives retain the right to inspect mining and collection centers at any time to verify compliance with contractual obligations.
