FIDE Certifies 1,900 Technicians for Solar Installations
In response to growing demand for renewable energy across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, the Trust for Electric Energy Savings (FIDE) has certified 1,900 individuals in the installation of photovoltaic systems to promote safe and efficient solar energy use in Mexico.
FIDE, accredited since 2014 as a labor competency certification and evaluation entity, is authorized to train, assess and certify personnel in energy efficiency and clean energy generation. Its goal is to ensure that installations meet national safety and quality standards.
The training is carried out through FIDE’s Technical Office, specifically its Direction for Training in Energy Efficiency and Distributed Generation. To date, the trust has delivered 123 courses based on national standards EC-0586 and EC-0586.01. These provide guidelines for verifying installation conditions, assembling mechanical and electrical components, connecting systems to the grid, and launching operational functions for solar photovoltaic systems.
Incorrect installations, such as poor cable selection or improper panel orientation, can lead to equipment failure, fire risk, or reduced energy output. FIDE emphasized that technical certification is essential to maximize investment in solar systems and to avoid safety and performance issues.
The organization’s certification efforts support broader national and global objectives for renewable energy deployment and emissions reduction. According to the World Meteorological Organization, countries must accelerate the energy transition to limit global warming. This includes doubling annual energy efficiency improvements from about 2% to over 4% by 2030 and reaching 100% renewable electricity by 2050.
