Guanajuato conducted a regional consultation to gather input and build consensus for the 2026 USMCA review. More than 80 representatives from the private sector participated, highlighting the state’s commitment to competitiveness, export leadership, and collaboration among clusters, chambers, and strategic companies.

Under the leadership of Governor Libia García, Guanajuato’s government is reinforcing coordination across all levels of government and the private sector to safeguard strategic economic sectors. The consultation was led by Minister of Economy Claudia Villaseñor, who collected proposals, concerns, and opportunities from business chambers, clusters, and companies in sectors including leather-footwear, textile-garments, chemical, plastics, metal-mechanics, agri-food, and automotive-autoparts.

“Today we are united by a clear purpose: to analyze the scope of USMCA with vision and responsibility, anticipate scenarios, and strengthen Guanajuato’s position in North America. We want the voices of our clusters, chambers, SMEs, and industries present in every decision that shapes our foreign trade,” Villaseñor said.

Following the presentation of the first diagnostic to Mexico’s Federal Ministry of Economy on Sept. 26, Guanajuato took the first step in this consultation process. The USMCA regional consultations, organized by Mexico’s Ministry of Economy, serve as a key mechanism to collect information, feedback, and proposals from economic stakeholders. This is the first time state participation has been incorporated into treaty renegotiations.

Guanajuato’s economy, the fifth-largest in Mexico, is valued at US$79 billion and hosts more than 270,000 business units providing employment to 1.4 million people. In 2024, the state reported exports exceeding US$36.3 billion, making it the top non-border exporting state in the country. Approximately 90% of these exports were destined for the United States and Canada, supported by over 2,000 export-oriented companies.

The Guanajuato Ministry of Economy thanked participants for their engagement and encouraged continued collaboration to build a prosperous future for Mexico and North America.

Through these initiatives, Guanajuato strengthens its national profile in investment attraction, job creation, and innovation, promoting a development model based on dialogue, coordination, and shared vision.
