NHK Spring to Invest US$55 Million in EV Motor Plant in Irapuato
Japanese auto parts manufacturer NHK Spring will invest US$55 million to establish a new production facility in Irapuato, Guanajuato, dedicated to manufacturing motor cores for hybrid and electric vehicles. The announcement was made during Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo’s investment promotion tour in Japan.
The new facility will be located in the Castro del Río Industrial Park and is projected to create 233 direct jobs. NHK Spring, which already operates two plants in the same park, will expand operations on its existing 60,000-square-meter site. The new plant will focus on mass production of laminated motor cores using stator and rotor stack technologies. These processes will incorporate both interlinked and non-interlinked welding, supported by NHK’s proprietary high-precision die technology.
“We continue investing because we believe in the state. Guanajuato offers us the trust and certainty we value,” said an NHK executive at the announcement. Governor García Muñoz Ledo highlighted the economic significance of the expansion, stating, “These developments benefit the families of Guanajuato by bringing quality jobs and new opportunities.”
The investment was first disclosed by NHK in 2023. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025.
Noritoshi Takamura, NHK’s Executive Vice President and Director of Quality and Technology, attended the announcement and expressed gratitude to the state government for supporting the company’s growth in Mexico.
